Getting visitors to your site is a great goal to have when developing your internet marketing plan. But how do you get them from a visitor to a paying customer? By developing a strategy that provides visitors with all the resources needed to help them make a purchase.

Goal 5: Increase the number of satisfied visitors through specialized customer service based on your targeted audience.

One of the challenges many people have when making purchases online is being able to quickly and effectively deal with problems. Many people want the same customer service experience when purchasing from an actual store front. Developing a great pipeline from the customer to the business online translates to repeat business.

Goal 6: Increasing the number of qualified visitors to your site.

Last week we started the discussion on how on the top of search engines by using smart internet marketing; here’s part 2:

Step 3: Have A Good Website Description
Having a good website description is a key part of Google understanding who you are and where you fit into.  This should also be the first couple of sentences of your body text.

Step 4: Increase your Website Content
No matter what you sell and how many keywords you may use, content always wins.  Make sure that each page of your website has a minimum word count of 300 words.  But don’t overdo it! You also want to make sure that you don’t go over 750 words.

Step 5: Choose Your Website Domain Carefully.
If you sell pink widgets what the point of naming your website www.sellstuff.com?  Name your website www.pink-widgets.com.  Separate your keywords by hyphens and search engines will find you!

Next week, we will explore additional tips about how to increase your search engine ranking and start focusing on smart internet marketing.

Getting to the top of search engine rankings can be a very tricky business. We’ve seen companies whose domain name is www.widgets.com, they sell widgets, all their products have the name widget in it but for some reason when you type in widget in Google, they still end up on the 3rd page.

It’s all about smart internet marketing; making smart and deliberate actions to reach your online marketing goals.  In this 3 part series we will look at a number of ways you can move up in the search engines.  However, it won’t happen over night! Nothing “smart” does, it’s going to take a consistent effort to obtain effective SEO.

Step 1: Linkage
Increasing your incoming and outgoing links is very important.  The first step is to take care of all the links that you can control.  Create a couple of websites and link them to each other and to your main site using important keywords.  Also, contact all sites that link to your competitors and ask them to link to your site.  A good way to find your competitors link is to enter “link” and your competitors domain name into Google.

Step 2: Clean up your website code
Every website should have a TITLE tag as the first META tag. Your title should be straight to the point with the absence of words like “a”, “an”, “the”, “for”, etc.  Another great tip is to make sure you include <h1> tags in your page body and in between the <h1> include important keywords.

Also, clean up your image codes.  Each image should be named correctly and each word should be separated by hyphens or underscores.  And don’t forget the ALT tag; it helps to describe your images.

Next week, we will explore additional tips about how to increase your search engine ranking and start focusing on smart internet marketing.
